Continuous improvement is pivotal to the success of products, systems and processes across all engineering disciplines. At Webtec, it’s a central pillar of our design and development activities, which is why we’ve just released an important update to our heavy-duty yet compact CTA series flow monitor for hydraulic systems. Released in 2022, our already popular CTA flow monitor now features a 4-20mA (3-wire loop) analogue output for flow reporting that will help ease system integration. The new output complements the existing J1939 CAN-bus interface for monitoring and transmitting oil flow and temperature data.
The 4-20mA output eases configuration with a wide range of industrial devices and control systems, largely thanks to the need for less wiring and connections than other signals. Furthermore, constant 4-20 mA loop current that does not degrade over distance means you’ll also benefit from greater efficiency and less electrical noise/interference, while low current means no electrical shock hazards.
The availability of both J1939 and 4-20 mA outputs further sets our increasingly popular hydraulic flow monitor apart from many others. Additional differentiators we can list include the highest possible (IP6K9K) ingress protection rating, alongside the device’s notable turndown ratio and pressure rating. End users also benefit from a robust enclosure that protects the connector in case you accidentally drop the flow monitor.
Our rugged CTA flow meter boosts common tasks that include closed-loop control and real-time diagnostics. It’s also ideal for reducing downtime in predictive maintenance/IoT systems. Applications for the EMC-compliant flow meter, which suffers no effects from heavy vibration, include earthmoving and mining machines, municipal vehicles, cranes, and autonomous vehicles.
The Webtec CTA flow monitor can also asses system performance metrics like hydraulic power output or pump volumetric efficiency by combining flow and pressure data, or even engine efficiency by comparing hydraulic power and fuel consumption.
As part of the series, the CTA offers calibrated flow up to 300 l/min (80 US gpm) at a maximum rated pressure of 420 bar (6000 psi), although other flow ranges are possible. If required, our experienced engineering team is on standby to help you identify the flow monitor’s optimal location on the machine.
