Make UK’s ‘National Manufacturing Day’ a Great Success at Webtec

Webtec welcomed students from Greater Peterborough UTC to its St Ives facility as part of Make UK’s ‘National Manufacturing Day’.  The year 10 students spent time in the machine shop, assembly, engineering and sales departments, giving them a great insight into the career opportunities available at Webtec.

After the tours, Cambridge Regional College discussed the apprenticeship and training schemes available.  The aim of the day was to encourage students to consider the career possibilities and opportunities open to them.

It was an excellent collaboration between industry and education and a great success for everybody involved, as Gareth Richards, Curriculum Lead: Technologies, Greater Peterborough UTC explained,

NMD

“Greater Peterborough UTC visited Webtec as part of the National Manufacturing Day 2022 with a group of Year 10 Engineering manufacture students. This was an excellent experience for the students and was really looked after by Webtec staff, who were very supportive and enthusiastic. The visit consisted of being shown round in small groups the various stages of the manufacturing processes which gave the students ample opportunities to ask questions and see the products at close quarters. After the tour there was a presentation from Cambridge College on apprenticeships and career routes and Webtec staff outlined their personal routes into manufacturing, which really helped students see the various pathways into manufacturing.

Overall, this was an excellent visit and we hope to work with Webtec in the future”.

Jan Czarnecki and Kerry Attfield who are both Business Skills Managers at Cambridge Regional College, were both very supportive and pleased with the event.

“It was great to support The National Manufacturing Day hosted by Webtec Products Ltd in St Ives on 7th July 2022.

This event provided local students an insight into the manufacturing processes and also the future careers opportunities within this company.  The opportunity for Cambridge Regional College to also showcase the benefits of apprenticeships and training provision available during day was well received by the delegates who attended.

All credit goes to Webtec who pledged their business in organising this unique NMD event; by collaborating with local schools and colleges who took part in interactive demonstrations across their business functions in the promotions UK manufactured products, highly skilled jobs, apprenticeships and career development”.

Thanks to the team in St Ives who did such a great job in showing the many aspects of engineering and hopefully have inspired a few to consider a career where they too can enjoy the challenges that engineering brings”!
