Getting to know our IT Process Manager

It’s easy to get to know your direct neighbour at work but it isn’t always possible to get to know your colleagues in a Global company such as Webtec. In our regular Blueprint feature we talk to our colleagues throughout the World to get to know them a little better.

Jane Giddings has kindly agreed to accept the ‘Getting To Know’ challenge. Read on to meet Jane.

Name
Jane Phillippa Giddings (nee Clarke)

What is your job title?
IT Process Manager.

Can you describe your role in less than 25 words
I have a dual role in Webtec – giving support and assisting in improvement of IT services and equipment… in other words I’m here for you!

How long have you worked at Webtec?
17 years. After moving from London, I decided to come out of IT and temp for a while to find something different… Webtec Sales Dept was my first appointment so I guess I have no concept of either temping or different.

Outside of work do you have any hobbies/interests?
I am a supporter of a number of animal welfare organisations chiefly Born Free and WWF. I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, photography and my two troublesome furbies (cats for anyone who has never met me). Since my early 20’s an interest in psychology and in particular the psychology of murderers has grown into what is best described as an obsessive study.

Cats

Favourite football team?
I am a long-term Manchester United widow, but not a fan.

Favourite film?
This a hard one, as there are so many. But if a had to pick I could probably narrow it down to 4
The classic - ‘A matter of life and death’ with David Niven
The more recent – ‘Joker’
The two that had the most profound effect on me – ‘Dead poets society’ and ‘Philadelphia’

Favourite holiday destination?
Whilst I really loved Tunisia and Italy, I think we tend to look far afield when asked this question, but there are some beautiful parts of the UK such as the Lake district and, closer to home, the North Norfolk coast.

Do you have any phobias?
Clowns (they are inherently evil), broad beans (They are the work of the devil) and Tom Jones (seriously).

Favourite and worst subject/s at school?
I was very interested in all the sciences and loved literature but really disliked geography which I was subsequently extremely bad at. This was a bit of a draw back when I worked in sales.

Dream dinner, you + 3 guests (dead or alive)
Will Travers - the son of English actors and wildlife campaigners Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna and current president of the born free foundation. I was lucky enough to hear him speak at a born free supporters’ day some years ago and he is a brilliant, articulate, and driven man
Spike Milligan - A troubled and fascinating comic genius
Jack the Ripper - (for those not in the UK he was an unidentified serial killer active the Whitechapel district of London in 1888.) Probably the most famous English serial killer – over the years there have been many theories as to who he was, but it has never been proven. I have my own theory and would love to know if I’m right – as it’s not one of the popular ones.
